Queens Dems Nominate David Weprin for State Assembly
(2010-01-11)
The Queens County Democratic Party today (Monday, January 11, 2010) unanimously nominated former NYC Council Member David I. Weprin as the Democratic Party candidate for State Assembly in the 24th Assembly District in the Special Election that takes place Tuesday, February 9, 2010.
“With encouragement from some of the foremost civic and community activists, I accept the challenge to keep our community strong and moving in the right direction,” stated Mr. Weprin. “It’s been an honor serving the families of my community and I look forward to continuing my service in the State Assembly. Albany can certainly use my knowledge of budget and finance in these tough fiscal times. In Albany, I will use my experience as City Council Finance Chair, and my experience in the private sector, to tackle city concerns that require state solutions.”
Mr. Weprin added, “As many know I chose not to seek re-election last year, remaining true to my avid opposition to the relaxation of term limits.”
“I believe I made a difference on the City Council, taking principled positions on such matters as term limits and the congestion tax and helping to balance eight tough budgets, while delivering millions in improvements for our schools, parks, senior centers and libraries,” stated the former City Council Finance Committee chair. “My efforts helped to maintain senior and youth programs and other core services.”
Former Council Member Weprin opened his State Assembly campaign office at 205-07 Hillside Avenue, Suite 16, in Hollis; telephone: (718) 465-8202.
